Some of my favorite childhood memories are cooking with my mom.She taught me how to always lay down a towel as a workstation before I got out any ingredients – so we could make a big mess, but still have an easy time cleaning up. Now, decades later, those memories are blurred almost completely out of focus by time. They are fuzzy swaths of feeling, mingling with stories I’ve told and been told over the years about my childhood.
A few months ago, I put out a call to my friends to see if anyone was interested in a different kind of family session – one that was completely documentary. No poses. Just life, as it unfolded. Kelly is a dear friend and an amazing florist. We chatted about lazy mornings at home, spent making pancakes with her son and husband, and I set an alarm so I could arrive at her home at 7am. This is what I captured. It’s not as polished as some of my other sessions, but I think there’s real magic here. I’m so excited to add these completely documentary offerings for families or couples.
